Ten Ways Not to Replace the Print Cartridge in the Photocopying Machine
It’s one of those jobs that anyone could do, somebody has to do it, but nobody wants to do it. Here are 10 ways of avoiding the task next time you’re at the machine when the dreaded red light flashes:
1. “There’s a light flashing and I don’t know what it’s for. Can you take a look at it? I’d come with you and learn but unfortunately I’ve got a train to catch and you know how it is, these trains wait for no-one! Thanks so much, I owe you one!”
2. “Can anyone show me where the stuff is that goes in the thingy? I’m happy to have a go and do it myself, it can’t be that difficult. There’s pictures right? And it’s on a maintenance contract?”
3. “Is there a bottle of ink anywhere? A light is telling me to replace the ink cartridge. I can’t see any ink and I don’t see where to pour it in.”
4. “Can you help me? The copier’s got this light flashing and I’ve got to go to the bathroom like 10 minutes ago! Can you do me a favour and sort it?”
5. “There’s something wrong with the machine. Has anyone called out the engineer?”
6. “Sorry but the photocopier seems to be demanding something, and I’m on my way to a meeting. Can someone else see to it? Thanks!”
7. “Hey I didn’t touch it, I’m not fixing it. Get the person who used it last to come fix it, I’ll wait until later!”
8. “Change the print cartridge on the photocopier? I don’t see that anywhere on my job description!”
9. “Can you do this copying for me, it’s for a meeting this afternoon. Thanks.”
10. “There’s a cartridge in there? Who knew?”
There are a number of ways of avoiding any kind of regular maintenance like this, but you’ll have to be prepared to get the reputation of being the person who always leaves the photocopier needing something! Of course the best way to get a free pass from anything remotely connected to fixing or maintaining office equipment is to earn your place as your office’s answer to Mr Bean, that way no-one’s going to ask you to fill, replace, or even work any piece of equipment again!
