So the snow has been coming down in blizzards like we haven’t seen here in England for many years now. Many people complain, many people moan about the transport problems and not being able to get into work. Then I try and make them listen to what they just said: they moaned about not being able to get into work! Most people if you turned to them and said, okay you are getting a day off, most people would rejoice! A day off for no reason! Brilliant! So why is the snow different?
It’s all about outlook. This is going to sound cliched, but is your glass half empty? If it is address that, because you are making yourself needlessly unhappy. The snow came down, and in my area kids were in the streets having snow ball fights, snowmen appeared up and down the road in peoples gardens and for a short while people stopped worrying about wether they have renewed their pet insurance or their caravan insurance. They stopped thinking about the day to day household bills and the worries of life. For a short ammount of time people stopped and enjoyed being exactly where they were because they didn’t have a choice. They couldn’t get to work, and because no one else could either everyone stopped and relaxed. They relaxed in way that doesn’t even happen on peoples days off or on the weekend. It was a beautiful day.
That time has now passed, and so people are back to work and their day to day activities. They have returned to selling their bare escentuals make up. They have picked up their phones and renewed their insurance policies. Life goes on… but I like to think people remember. I like to think half way through their days at work that are just like every other day that they have ever had, that they stop and have a little smile about the day the world came to stop so that everyone could make snow men.
