When you are trying to keep your boss happy of course the obvious thing to do is to do what is asked of you. But, to truly impress your boss you will need to go above and beyond. Putting forth a little extra effort could be your way to the top.
Showing up to work on time is of course a requirement. Showing up fifteen minutes early and starting coffee for the office shows initiative and that you are a team player. Emptying the trash in the break room or picking up those hand towels that sit in the corner and wiping off a table or counter shows that you take pride in all aspects of your job and your surroundings. Keeping your desk neat and organized shows your boss that you are in control of your area and in turn that you can be in control of any assigned tasks. Putting forth that little bit of extra effort in areas that you are not required to do will show your boss that you have the initiative to start things on your own.
Another way to impress your boss is to make sure to complete any and every task above and beyond expectations. If you are able to complete assigned tasks before they are due you will show your boss that you can not only complete the task but that you can complete it ahead of schedule. When your boss needs an import task completed they know they can count on you. It is easy to excel in any career if you chose to always go above and beyond and take pride in everything that you do. Your employer will always be able to spot who is putting forth the most effort and who really wants to succeed. All you have to do is show your boss that you are that person. Then there is no stopping you in the office from rising above others.
