All corporate events are basically conducted for that much needed relief from the long hours, weeks and months of work that is done by the staff of an organization. It is a fact in today’s management theories that the employees of a company play a vital role in enhancing the productivity and future prospects of the organization. In order to bring out the best from the employees, they are required to be kept at a heightened state of motivation and< !–more–>above all provided with a conducive work atmosphere.

Today’s managers are more aware of the benefits of encouraging staff to take that much needed break from the monotony of work life. Many companies have their own financial allocation for corporate events and sufficient money is set aside for these very events only. Corporate events, similarly to corporate training, are either arranged and carried out by the staff themselves or are entrusted upon those professional event managers who are experts in this field. There are in fact, numerous professionals who have distinguished themselves in this fast growing field of event management. For a required fee they would take upon the responsibility of conducting the whole event smoothly and systematically and save you the headache of planning and organizing the entire thing all by yourself. It is seen that the best of creativity, enthusiasm and robust spirits are seen in sports activities. Thus, it is no wonder that for most part the corporate events contain sports activities like racing, rafting, shooting, mystery and spy games, treasure hunts and many more.

Many event management companies have their own websites where adequate information is available on the kind of services provided. Most corporate events are conducted during company foundation days and holidays and some even have a monthly celebration of employee’s birthdays and anniversaries. Again, most events can also be theme driven to ensure greater participation and enthusiasm.

A healthy office environment leads to better output from the staff and goes a long way in helping an organization achieve its target. To facilitate this most modern offices have corporate events incorporated in their schedule in addition to regular activities.

It has been shown that there is maximum interaction between employees of an office during such events and soon this led to a better work environment which in turn increased the productivity of the office staff. The event by itself may vary from office to office, but their aim is for mediating smoother cooperation between co-workers in an office. Some of the corporate events that are usually celebrated in an office are the company days, sporting events, soft skills training, evening entertainment, corporate theme parties, corporate holiday parties, office parties and marketing campaigns.

In order to bring in a smoother functioning of an office, there must be cooperation between staff and the members of the management as well. The mere conduct of various corporate events is not sufficient. In order to maintain regular harmony and efficiency employees must be encouraged to take part actively and mingle with one and all and get to know each other irrespective of rank and position. Most events such as these are informal platforms where ideas and opinions can be exchanged without the fear of any backlash whatsoever. Many a successful business idea has often taken wings due to sharing of ideas across all ranks in an organization. Again, no matter what, every member of the staff should try to be disciplined and put in their best effort at work. The more the knowledge, the more will be the concentration and more will be the output. It should be borne in the minds of the staff that there will always be people who would get bogged down by negativity and involve in gossip all the time and such people are better left to themselves.

Many people make their jobs far harder than it needs to be
simply because they work hard but not smart. This can be
avoided and is not that difficult to do. You can get more done
on your job by working smarter and maybe even less. Let’s
explore some ways to accomplish this.

First, you need to start by working in a job that you love.
Successful people get that way generally because they are
involved in work that they enjoy. Choose a career that you are
happy doing because if you work when you are happy, it tends to
make you more productive. Productivity comes more easier when
it is in a job you like being involved in.

Having goals to work towards simplifies things. Clearly define
and write down what your goals are for the day, week or even
month. Once you have your goals written down, decide what needs
to be done to accomplish them. What are your daily actions
going to be? How much time does certain projects or tasks take
to be completed?

Prioritize your actions from most difficult to
easiest. Get the harder tasks out of the way first such as
phone calls and reports and then easily breeze through the
easier ones like email marketing. It is known that if you get
your least desired duties out of the way, there is no room for
procrastination which is productivity’s worst enemy. Generally
people procrastinate when they are faced with demanding
projects, deadlines or big workloads. By accomplishing these
first, there is no need to procrastinate.

Brush up on your skills periodically. Always be in a state of
learning. Whether you need to work on your prospecting skills or
presentation skills, take the necessary steps to enhance these
skills. Working efficiently in your job comes easier with
polished work related skills.

Keep your workspace organized. How does one expect to work with
a clear head when they have piles of papers stacked all over the
place? File away your papers, clean up your space around you and
try to surround yourself with things you enjoy such as family
pictures, a daily planner or calendar and fresh flowers.
Minimize distractions by creating an organized, pleasant working
environment.

When the workload becomes too much for you, do not hesitate to
outsource your work. Hire an assistant to do the work for you or
at least work side by side with you as a team. Concentrate on
your most important projects, and outsource the smaller
redundant activities. This will actually simplify your job
enabling you to get more done in less time.

Working smarter not harder is key to being successful with any
job your in. If you enjoy what you do, that is even better. You
have to learn how to set goals, prioritize your work, keep
organized and stay focused on keeping it simple.

Most of us find a great deal of time at work to stare into outer space. Whether we are bored or just a bit burnt out from mental tasks, these long stares can put you in an awkward situation should your boss walk by. However, this article will detail a few quick ways to look busy, even if you are on a “mental break.”

1. Jog between your desk and the water cooler or vending machine. This makes it look like you are in a hurry to get something done and it gives you a bit of exercise.
2. Look up websites about subjects you were always too lazy to learn about. Wikipedia.org is a good place to start. This makes it look like you are doing some heavy research when you are just feeding your interest and knowledge.
3. Learn Origami. Buy a book or find a good website on the art of origami and learn to make the most elaborate paper shapes that you can. This will look like you are putting together a report or project and it enhances to your skill set, if not making you more popular for your creativity.
4. Get a consulting job online. Offer out your expertise FOR A PRICE! This will look like you are working when you are actually supplementing your income while AT WORK! (I found a great place to do this was by writing for the sharedlog project)
5. Start forming the world’s largest rubber band ball. Scavenge the office for left over rubber bands and keep adding to your collection. People will assume you need the rubber bands for something valid and will generally leave you alone.
6. Join a forum on some extreme topic that you completely disagree with online.  Fighting online kills a lot of time, has no ramifications, and can make you feel important. It also looks pretty busy!
7. Play a web-browser game. These simple games can be quite addictive and they do not look like real video games so no one will expect a thing.
8. Send coupons for other retailers and products to all of your clients or coworkers. They will appreciate the effort and you will look thrifty! The more absurd or matched up the product is, the better. For example, give a fat lady a coupon for Weight Watchers, a bald guy a coupon for hair restoration, etc. It promises to be very entertaining to watch people’s reactions.
9. Pretend you are in high school again and create lists ranking your coworkers. For example, some great topics may be:  Best Butt, Worst Cankles, Smelliest, etc. Forward these lists anonymously to your entire office. Be careful, if your name is on it you could be looking at a sexual harassment suit.
10. See how many grapes, raisings, pencil erasers, or other small objects you can shove in your mouth. Take bets. See if you can break a world record. Be careful not to choke!

On my way to work today I saw a massive pvc banner advertising new office space that has become available in a new development. Now usually I ignore these things completly. We’ve all gotten very used to screening out advertising, no matter now loud the music, how flashing the television advert or how glossy the vinyl pvc banners are. In this case though I noticed it because of something that is under discussion at work at the moment.

The boss is thinking of moving offices. The let of the agreement has come up, and he is seriously considering changing offices for a better deal. Now commercial property in london is expensive, it really is so moving is quite a big decision. Having said that I think that one of his reasons for making the move is based around the actual fact that it is expensive. If he stays here and renews, rumour has it that the cost is going to shoot up, dispite all the stuff on the news about housing prices coming down. So now he is looking for somewhere to rent… or thats what we thought.

Actually, he has decided to try and find an office that is willing to barter for space! That’s right, rather than pay for space like most normal businesses, he is going to try and find  an office landlord that is interested in our business, and instead of taking our money my boss hopes that he will accept payment in kind through our service! Now actually I think that this is a really good idea in theory. I think that swapping is great. It involves no exchange of money, so you don’t get hit by tax, and since you are offering something that you already have or produce, you can effectivly swap things "at cost" which means that both partys end up with more than they would have had if they had just paid. It means that eveyone gets value for money.

The real quesiton is though – is he really going to be able to find someone to make that kind of a trade with? Keep reading and I’ll let you know as and when it happens… ! 

I was meeting a few friends to watch something in London. On arrival I found out that a couple of people who were supposed to be coming had dropped out, and we had spare tickets, but only 50minutes till it started. So I did a bit of a phone around to see if I could give the tickets away. My usual friends couldn’t make it, so I started to phone people who had ended up on my phone randomly! A few of the people didn’t remember me, and a couple of times I didn’t know who I was phoning either! One of the conversations went along the lines of:

Girl: Who are you?

Me: I was knew the german girl? Remember? You agreed to trade up a massage from me in exchange for painting me in oil colours naked?  Remember?

Girl: Oh! Oh… Oh yeah…

Needless to say she didn’t come out that night and I deleted her number from my phone!

Any how,I called this girl who I’d met in a club, and she couldn’t come out. I’d only met her the once, so I did the usual we should meet up some time… By then. Suddenly I found myself not letting it go. Instead I did the “we should meet up some time” bit, but instead of letting it go there and saying bye, I instead asked her if she was free the next day. She wasn’t, but she was free the day after that! The next thing I knew, I had a date with a lovely lady lined up!

I have to say, I got off the phone a little surprised with myself and the turn out, but it was at this moment I realised something. I struggle to get dates most of the time, I find approaching strangers intimidating and difficult. What I realised is it doesn’t hurt to ask if the opportunity presents itself. I wasn’t calling her to angle for a date, but that’s how it turned out because when an opening presented itself I took it – and it came through.

I guess the dating lesson from this is a simple one, if you like someone and there is a chance to ask, ask them out – you really have nothing to lose.

This all sounds a little familiar… Must remember I'm being paid for this, I feel like I'm a character from neighbours sometimes, yeah!?

Japan. There is nothing that initially appeals to me about the place. I have never had an urge to go and visit japan, I have never thought that it would be a really cool place to go. There is nothing that I specifically want to go and see there. So why am I considering going to Japan… It’s all about a man called Craig! I knew Craig at university years ago. Last month I ‘bumped’ into him on the internet. We chatted for about ½ an hour on MSN then arranged a conference call the next day. What was supposed to be a 30min chat, turned into the longest long distance phone call of my life! I was on the buzzer for 4 hours! In the end I was getting hungry and he was getting tired cos it was late so we ended the call. So now I’m thinking about going to Japan, not to see the sights. Not because its been a dream of mine to see Toykio. Not because there is anything specifically that appeals to me about Japan…. but because I want to meet up with Craig for a drink. Is that crazy of me?
