Snow, snow and more snow!

So the snow has been coming down in blizzards like we haven’t seen here in England for many years now. Many people complain, many people moan about the transport problems and not being able to get into work. Then I try and make them listen to what they just said: they moaned about not being able to get into work! Most people if you turned to them and said, okay you are getting a day off, most people would rejoice! More

Corporate team building day - we have to throw ourselves off trees?

So we’ve all been told that at this years corporate event we all have to go on the corporate team building day. Now I’m not adverse to doing this. It’s a good excuse to get out of the office, and even when in the past it has been stupid or a little boring, it’s a normal working day so it is a little like being paid to do something less boring than being at work. So I’ve never had a problem with doing them.

This year however the team building activity is going into the forest to climb through and up some trees. Now to begin with this sounds alright. It is something a bit different, it gets us out into the fresh air, it sounds all good. Complaints began with some of the older members of the office. Some people aren’t as young as they used to be and perhaps would struggle a little with doing indiana More

Being managed well – how not to motivate your team

We’ve all had bad bosses in the past – or possibly even present. We have all worked in a situation where we have hated our bosses. Those of you who are reading this and thinking to yourself "no I haven’t" you are wrong. Think harder – you’ve probably just blocked those sections of your life from your memory they were so bad. I know I did. I can’t remember what I did between the age of 18-21 and I’m sure that is all down to having a bad boss (nothing to do with the pub!).

Then we have probably (hopefully) all worked with a good boss too. Now they probably weren’t perfect, the nice ones are often either in need of a personality transplant or possibly just a decent nose job, but they were good bosses. They treated us fairly, they didn’t abuse their positions and they weren’t power hungry. I have a good boss.

Facebook gets people fired

25th March SE control panel project Log « IdleTymes Blog

Let me start by coming clean and saying that this didn’t happen in my office to our James, but it DID happen.

So James goes down the pub for a drink after work. Just a quiet drink, it’s not intended to be a long one out, but it becomes one of those nights. You know what I’m talking about, one drink leads to another and the next thing you know you’re ordering in table food because you aren’t making it home for dinner. It was a really good night as well by all accounts, everyone was having a good time. Chintu with his usual invincibility went over to a group of ladies who turned out to be from the PR Company down the road opposite Foxtons and the next thing everyone knew they’d come over to join the group and James was sharing a sofa with a couple of lovely PR types. Now there is nothing wrong or sinister in this part, for thos of you who know who I’m talking about James isn’t married, is single and this story isn’t going to lead on to him having an affair, his wife finding out about it through facebook, and James ending up with a divorce, no home to live in and being fired (though I’m sure that would have happened at some point to someone by now).
